Meijer donation helps Lansing theater thrive

Meijer, Inc. donated $75,000 to BoarsHead Theater in Lansing—nearly 10 percent of the theater’s budget—and will be sponsoring the theater’s 43rd season. The sponsorship results from an appreciation of the arts by those at Meijer and their desire to become a part of Lansing’s downtown. BoarsHead Theater is Michigan’s longest continually running professional theater.

Art Van Furniture supplied furniture and accessories for the new home built as part of the Extreme Home Makeover television show taped in Holt. The effort marks the third time the company has supported the families chosen by the Extreme Home Makeover crew. The show featuring the house in Holt will air in late November or early December.

In addition, the Michigan Clean Cities Coalition chose the Warren-based furniture retailer for its Michigan Clean Transportation Community Leader Award, in recognition of the store’s participation in the National Biofuels Energy Laboratory program to test B20, a biofuel, as part of an effort to move forward the creation of national standards for biofuel.

Heller’s recent articles and weekly commentaries on gold and the precious metals markets, published on www.numismaster.com, have been extensively reprinted, linked and quoted on other websites dealing with precious metals. Several articles dealt with the recent federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and its impact on the U.S. dollar and the gold market.

Retail bakeries through the Retail Bakers of America (RBA) are participating in a national cookie poll campaign to increase community involvement in the U.S. presidential election. Ryke’s Bakery Catering & Café in Muskegon is the only Michigan bakery participating.

Participating bakers make and sell cookies with the images, names or political party mascots of the presidential candidates, then submit the total number of election cookies sold to the RBA offices for tabulation. Results of the nationwide poll are announced weekly on the election cookie poll website at www.rbanet.com/2008cookiepoll.htm.
