donation helps Lansing theater thrive
Meijer,
Inc. donated $75,000 to BoarsHead Theater in Lansingnearly 10
percent of the theaters budgetand will be sponsoring the theaters
43rd season. The sponsorship results from an appreciation of the arts
by those at Meijer and their desire to become a part of Lansings
downtown. BoarsHead Theater is Michigans longest continually running
professional theater.
Art Van Furniture supplied furniture and accessories
for the new home built as part of the Extreme Home Makeover television
show taped in Holt. The effort marks the third time the company has supported
the families chosen by the Extreme Home Makeover crew. The show featuring
the house in Holt will air in late November or early December.
In addition, the Michigan Clean Cities Coalition chose
the Warren-based furniture retailer for its Michigan Clean Transportation
Community Leader Award, in recognition of the stores participation
in the National Biofuels Energy Laboratory program to test B20, a biofuel,
as part of an effort to move forward the creation of national standards
for biofuel.
The American Numismatic Association honored Patrick Heller,
of Liberty Coin Service in Lansing, with its Presidential Award
at a ceremony in Baltimore at the organizations Worlds Fair
of Money.

recent articles and weekly commentaries on gold and the precious metals
markets, published on www.numismaster.com, have been extensively reprinted,
linked and quoted on other websites dealing with precious metals. Several
articles dealt with the recent federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie
Mac and its impact on the U.S. dollar and the gold market.
Retail bakeries through the Retail Bakers of America (RBA)
are participating in a national cookie poll campaign to increase community
involvement in the U.S. presidential election. Rykes Bakery Catering
& Café in Muskegon is the only Michigan bakery participating.
Participating bakers make and sell cookies with the images,
names or political party mascots of the presidential candidates, then
submit the total number of election cookies sold to the RBA offices for
tabulation. Results of the nationwide poll are announced weekly on the
election cookie poll website at www.rbanet.com/2008cookiepoll.htm.
