Marshall Music honored

Marshall Music received the Michigan Music Educators Association’s “Friend of Music Education Award” for its longstanding support of music education and its many efforts to enhance music teaching, learning and performance in Michigan schools.

Dan Marshall, president of the family-owned, 60-year-old company (and MRA board member), accepted the award. Marshall Music operates stores in Lansing, Grand Rapids, Allen Park, West Bloomfield, Troy, Portage and Traverse City.

“It’s truly a labor of love to work with the schools and their music instructors to provide the best instrumental experiences for their students” said Marshall.


The City of Zeeland announced the launch of its new branding campaign and presented the city’s new logo and tagline: FEEL THE ZEEL. Since summer, the city has been working with the local marketing agency, The Image Group, to build a brand that better represents the city of Zeeland and all it has to offer.


Leading coffee retailer Biggby Coffee, based in East Lansing, has made Entrepreneur magazine’s annual Franchise 500 list for the second consecutive year, moving 34 spots up from the previous year. The fast-growing company ranked second among coffee retailers named to the prominent list.

Founded in 1995 as Beaner’s Coffee, the company changed its name last fall over concerns that its former name might be considered a disparaging term.
