The return of Super Raffle

by Tom Weber, Acting Lottery Commissioner

The Lottery’s Super Raffle is back, with tickets on sale September 17 and the drawing date planned for either October 22 or within 10 days of the ticket selling out.

The Lottery launched the first Super Raffle on May 7 after much study and surveying of retailers regarding the feasibility of a $50 price point ticket. Our findings encouraged us to proceed.

The Super Raffle game was received much more readily than we had anticipated, and the 250,000 tickets were gone in less than three days. Clearly, the market is ripe for a lottery game at this price point, which was and still remains the most expensive raffle-style ticket offered in the country.

Based on the success and popularity of this game, the second Super Raffle game will parallel the first and will again be the best chance ever to win $2 million. Here are the details:

• 250,000 tickets to be sold for $50 each
• two prizes of $2 million each (annuitized over 20 years or $1,300,000 cash)
• 25 prizes of $100,000 each
• 4,500 prizes of $500 each
• one in 55 tickets wins at least $500.

The only difference between this Super Raffle and the previous one, as mentioned above, is the flexibility regarding the drawing date. We will conduct the drawing on either October 22 or within 10 days of the tickets selling out.

If the drawing date will be other than October 22, we will notify retailers via messages on the Lottery terminals and announce it on our website.

Retailers will also earn the same $3 commission for every Super Raffle ticket they sell. Sellers of the two $2 million prizes earn a $5,000 super-sized bonus commission. And all those $500 prizes can be cashed in-store, providing another commission opportunity.

We also expect to offer another Millionaire Raffle game, with a $20 ticket, once more this year, with a launch and drawing dates designed to maximize the holiday purchasing season.

Your sales representative will keep you informed of the details as they are determined.
